Mission Statement

As the Student Government Association of Northern Kentucky University, we strive to fulfill our sworn duties to serve the student body by addressing its concerns, needs, and rights. While leading on a positive platform that is open, ethical and supportive, we place the student body's well being above all.

Student Government Association 2009-10 Goals

  1. Work with campus administration to investigate possible increases in student employment and scholarships.
  2. Examine the smoking policy and make a recommendation to move towards a smoke free campus.
  3. Examine the tuition model and discuss the impact on students and faculty of implementing per credit hour tuition.
  4. Support the efforts of the Campus Recreation Center in the funding, expansion or renovation of the recreational center.
  5. Continue working with Chartwells in investigating the possibility of providing meal transferability.
  6. Investigate the possibility of text book unbundling and making the ISBN available to students ahead of each academic semester.

STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION
2010 SPRING ELECTION PACKETS
AVAILABLE WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 17th at 12:00pm (noon)

Student Government Association (SGA) 2010 spring election packets will be available on Wednesday, February 17th at 12pm (noon) for students who elect to run on a ballot for a Executive Cabinet, Senate or Judicial Council position:

Executive Cabinet Positions


  • President
  • Vice President (President and Vice President may run on a slate)
  • Secretary of Public Relations
  • Secretary of Student Involvement
  • Secretary of Administration

Candidates for SGA Executive Cabinet positions must be a student in good standing as defined by the University, have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 at the time of election and completed 30 credit hours by the beginning of the 2010 fall semester.

Senate and Judicial Council Positions

  • Senate (25 Senate positions available)
  • Judicial Council (5 Judicial Council positions available)

Candidates for SGA Senate and Judicial Council positions must be a student in good standing as defined by the University, have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 at the time of election and completed twelve (12) credit hours by the end of the semester in which they are elected.

Election Packet Availability

Election packets will be available in the SGA Office (SU 330) and Dean of Students Office (SU 301) at 12pm (noon) on Wednesday, February 17th.  Election packets must be completed and returned to the Dean of Students Office by Monday, March 22nd at 4:30pm.  Candidate names will appear on the election ballot in the order they are received in the Dean of Students Office. 

Student Government Association Election Dates

SGA elections will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 and Thursday April 1, 2010. 

Student Government Association Meetings

SGA meetings are held on every Monday afternoon during the fall and spring semesters starting at 3:30pm in Student Union Governance Room, SU 104.  Candidates must be able to attend the SGA meetings on a regular basis.  Additional information concerning the SGA can be obtained by contacting their office at 859-572-5149.  

 

2008-09 Student Government Association Accomplishments

  • Approved resolution that requested additional funding for Campus Recreation
    • Funding  was approved for fitness equipment replacement
  • Approved resolution for wireless access for University Housing students
    • Project will be completed by the start of the 2009 fall semester
  • Senate approved a new SGA constitution
    • New constitution will be up for a student vote in the 2009 SGA Fall Special Election
  • Assisted with the creation of the Norse Force spirit organization
  • Increased SGA’s visibility on campus
  • Awarded Special Needs Grants to students through an application process
  • Awarded Ashley Ellis the 2009-10 Anne Braden Scholarship
  • Established the Student Governance Summit with local high schools
